PROCEDURE:
STEP ONE: Go to the FILE MENU and create a NEW file. Set
the size: WIDTH 9.2” and HEIGHT 10.2”, resolution 300, Mode: RGB.
(Remember to use inches.)
STEP TWO: SAVE this file as "YLNI Warhol". This is your new background file. Minimimize it. We will not need it immediately.
STEP THREE: Next, use GUIDELINES to mark off a one inch border on all four sides of your file.
STEP FOUR: Go to FILE: OPEN and navigate to Shared Documents. Open your photograph. When the photograph is open, check the resolution to be sure it matches the new file you made (should be 300 dpi). To to this, go to Image: Image Size. Adjust the new file if it is different from the photo!)
Next change the PRINT SIZE to Width 4”: and Height 3”. (Notice when you change the width, the height automatically becomes correct).
STEP FIVE: Next,
take the color out of the photo by going to IMAGE: ADJUSTMENTS: DESATURATE. This will remove the color from the image. Next, go to Image>Adjustments>BRIGHTNESS & CONTAST and brighten the photo. Last, use the Rectangular selection and drag around the entire photo. Go to Edit>STROKE. Create a stroke that is a color, 10 points, inside, 100% opacity.
STEP SIX: Go to the SELECT MENU: Select ALL. Copy your photo.
Your image is now being held in the computers memory. Close your file.
STEP SEVEN: Open your minimized Warhol background file. Go to the EDIT MENU and PASTE your image. Use the move tool to position the first image in the upper left-hand corner. Continue pasting until you have six tiled images arranged as shown in the diagram. (Hint: you might want to paste one extra, and turn off that layer). SAVE.
STEP EIGHT: Now you can begin working on each individual
portrait. Select the layer you want to work on and ZOOM IN so that it fills
your screen. Use all your skills and knowledge of Photoshop to create exciting,
well designed portraits. Use all the tools we have experimented with so far...airbrush,
rubberstamp, filters, and the adjust menu. Be CREATIVE and have fun with it!
REQUIREMENTS:
*Your portraits should show time, effort, and knowledge (thru demonstration)
of Photoshops wide range of tools, filters, & effects!
* Your file must be properly constructed
following the above procedure. Be sure the size is correct.
* It is not enough to simply apply a filter to a portrait...work within
the portrait to select areas for specilized color and effects. Spend approximately
one class period on each portrait. Each portrait should show a wide range
of effect and changes.
*At least one portrait should show your normal skin color...and no more than one can contain letters or written information .( Remember: the portrait is the important part!)
* Each portrait should be "finished" so that it could be printed as a "stand alone" portrait.
*Each portrait must have a background, middleground and foreground.
*Portraits must not be "lost" in the filter process...it should still be recognizable as you!
Hint: Don't "paint" on photos....use Photoshops tools to colorize!
