Elements of Art and Design (define and list them!)
Binary: Counting system used by computers, consisting of 1’s and 0’s (base 2) (In computer speak, One means ON and 0 means OFF) .
Modem/Cable Modem: Device used to connect the computer to telephone/cable lines in order to use on-line services or internet.
RAM: “Random access memory.” Often simply called “memory, this type of memory is measured in megabytes.
Disk Drive: An internal or external device that allows you to insert a disk and retrieve data.
ROM: “Read
only memory.” A storage device that can only be “read”...one
example is Compact Disk-ROM....CD-ROM.

Port: An input/output connection on the computer.
Objects: Shapes that may be reselected and altered. (Drawing programs are said to be “object oriented).
Access: To call us information from the computer (hard drive) or from a floppy disk.
Scanner: a device used to input pictures or text.

Pixels: An acronym for PICture ELements. Tiny dots that make up a picture. (The more dots, the better the picture).
Application: a specialized software program that runs on a computer. Also called a “program”. Examples: AppleWorks, Photoshop and Excel.
Bitmap: A graphic image made up of tiny points of light called pixels. (Paint programs are produce mostly bitmapped images.)
