JOURNAL
: Due Date is Friday, Oct. 9, 2009.
CRITIQUE DATE: Thursday, Oct. 15, 2008. NEW
DATE: Tues., Oct. 20!
ASSIGNMENT:
Recreate an artwork that is considered a masterpiece!
You may recreate your masterpiece one of two ways:
1) Recreate your painting as a
"Monster Masterpiece" (like
those above),
...............................OR
2) Recreate your painting as a "FANTASY MASTERPIECE"!
(Imagine
"American Gothic" with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leah")
REQUIREMENTS:
1) Use Websites: Use one of the websites shown at right, to locate a masterpiece. You must use a famous, recognized artist for your work. If in doubt, ask! (Note: DO NOT use Mona Lisa).
2) Two Pages: This journal will use two facing pages. On the LEFT page, glue a printed copy of your famous painting. Write the name of the artist, the title of the painting beneath it. On the RIGHT page, create your own recreated masterpiece!
3) Drawing & Coloring: Your page should be richly colored, and have good contrast! Use rich, vibrant, dark colors where necessary to create good contrast with lighter, brighter areas. DO NOT us construction paper or colored paper for the backgrounds! BE CREATIVE! Your colors do not have to "match" the original.
4) Meaningful Text: Your page must include meaningful text somewhere in the work (remember, this is not merely a word or words...it's text that has meaning! Write about your masterpiece! Or, find a poem or song that "works" with your creation!
5) Collage: Use collage to create areas with jewel-like color or texture. Use bits of paper, snippets of photos, pieces of ribbon, etc.. DO NOT a print of the artwork you are using as your source. Be creative with your collage! (HINT: Be sure that you don't count a "glued in" border as our collage!)
6) Border: Create a border, or frame, around your journal page. This may be done by drawing or coloring, collage, colored paper, etc. (HINT: A "glued in" border does not count as collage! It can only count once: as a border, or as collage.)
7) Door, window or "slider": Create a small window or a piece that slides out. Be sure it is a part of the composition, not just "stuck on". Reveal a hidden message when your door/window/slider is opened! (Tape should not show!)
HELPFUL HINTS: In this journal, tracing is an acceptable way to "start" building your Monster or Fantasy Masterpiece. Try using "poor man's tracing paper"....Turn your printed copy over on the back, and use your pencil to blacken the back with graphite (pencil). Then, place it on your journal, and "trace" over the basic outlines of your painting. You will see a light transfer of your painting on the white journal page. Draw over it, and begin recreating!
EVALUATION: Evaluation will be based upon:
.
NOTE:
Be certain before you begin that your artist and masterpiece are located in one of the two websites above! If not, check with me first to be sure they will be acceptable!
ALSO...do not use MONA LISA.
