Journal Assignment
DUE DATE: Tuesday, November 2, 2009

CRITIQUE DATE: Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Please plan to bring in your journal sometime this week so that we can review your progress!

Ani-Morph

For this journal, you will need a color photo of yourself or another person, taken from the front. The photo must be: at least
5" inches, from forehead to chin and in color. Xerox quality is just fine, if that's all you have.

(You can use an actual photo, use a photo from a magazine or print from the internet....IF the photo is clean and clear! Be sure it's not fuzzy, and that it's in full color!)

Cut out the photo of the person from the background, and then cut it down the middle (see example right). Glue half down to the journal, as shown. You may glue down either side.

Next, look at the photo. What animal does this person remind you of? Ostrich? Parrot? Bumblebee? Giraffe? Cat? Let your imagination run with it...if this person was an animal, what would he or she be!!??? Take visual cues from the photo to find the answer!

After you decide what type of animal your photo resembles, DRAW in the animal on the other half of the portrait! Match the facial features as best nearly as possible. Fully color your animal half!

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Create a background that is appropriate for the animal. For instance, if you turn the other half into a parrot, you might draw a jungle background! Be sure your background is thoughtfully created to complement your animorph...and full of rich, deep color!

2. Use meaningful text somewhere in the background. Your words should blend into other layers of color so that it becomes texture, shading or creates outlines.

3. Use collage to create a border that is meaningful for your animorph! Your border should be NO MORE than half an inch wide.

4. Include a peephole, door or window, somewhere in your page...It should open to reveal a surprise!

REMEMBER THAT WE ARE WORKING FOR NEW IDEAS, FOR CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION!
DON'T CREATE SOMETHING THAT WE'VE ALREADY SEEN!
AVOID CARTOONS AND ANIMATIONS.

Don't miss the examples to the right! Please understand that these are examples of the "animorphs" only...The students who created these examples did NOT have exactly the same requirements as you do...so yours should be much more involved, have a better background, etc. See the requirements above!

Some internet examples! (Dream up your own...don't use those on the net!)

Remember that these DO NOT have the well developed background, collage, and text that is required...they are merely good examples of how to do the animorph!
