Journal Showcase:
Note: This journal will ONLY be accepted until Tuesday, January 17, 2012. It is a time limited opportunity! If you are absent on Friday, you've missed the opportunity.

THIS ASSIGNMENT IS OPTIONAL.
It is intended for those students who wish to bolster the Homework section of their grade. You may turn it in early, OR send it with a friend, if necessary, to be sure it arrives on time.

This is an opportunity to raise your grade IF you do a fantastic job! Frankly, there is NO REASON to do this journal unless you are going to do an EXEMPLARY job. That's why it's called a Journal "Showcase" assignment: you must showcase what you've learned! SCROLL DOWN if you're still interested!

Your task:

There are NINE STEPS, NINE requirements, to this journal. Each step is worth ten points. Each must be correctly completed, using the guidelines here and those learned in class, to count!

Thought, Planning & Craftsmanship! As always, be sure your page shows thought, planning and is well developed. It should have a good composition and a clear center of attention.

Requirements:

Create an ORIGINAL journal page about one of the subjects shown in the blue box on the right. RESEARCH, read, dig and find new information for your page. Your journal page should reflect all the skills you learned from earlier journals. Look back and review the different types of journals we have done (links on the ARCHIVE DOCS link.) Plan a page that uses as many of those elements and features as possible!

1. ORIGINAL drawing & coloring: (Note: Works copied from the internet, or any copyrighted source, will not be accepted for credit.) There should be no white space remaining. Be sure your work is original...not copied from any source. Do not use colored paper in place of hand coloring. None, nada, zero, zip, not at all! USE RICH, DEEP COLORS and outline with your Sharpie.

2 LAYERING: Be sure to include layers of information--color, handwritten text, collage, etc. Work at building a richness of information into your journal. You want the viewer to explore and see many different aspects within one page!

3. Collage: Only 20% of the overall page may be collage!!! Use it creatively, to bring richness and texture to your page.

4. Meaningful text: NOT JUST RANDOM WORDS, but thoughts, poems, lyrics, information from your rsearch, etc. It should be information BEYOND common knowledge (in other words, information that is beyond what most of us already know! AND, it should be used creatively!

5. Door or Window: Include at least one functioning door or window in your page that reveals something important. (May not be torn, on edges of the journal, or with tape or staples visible).

6. Decorative Border that reflects your subject. (Your border cannot count as collage).

7. Find a way to include an example of a COMPLEMENTARY colors, somewhere in your page.

8. Add an extra element that you dream up!
It should not be a repeat of something above.
BE CREATIVE!

9. Your work must be done properly IN your journal. Taped in, pasted in or loose will not earn any credit!
