"The
future belongs to those who believe
in the beauty of their dreams."
Eleano
"Dreams have influenced mighty kings, given insights to world-changing scientists and inspired gifted artists. The importance and power of dreams are well established. From the temples of antiquity to the sleep labs of modern days, humans have tried to understand, explain and apply them."Gail Bixler-Thomas
Objective: 1) To create an artwork that depicts both the dream and the dreamer!
Due:
TUESDAY,
MARCH 23, 2010
CRITIQUE DATE: WEDNEDAY, MARCH 24, 2010
(Note: As always, this is an overnight assignment.
If you need help, assistance or advice, please come by on Tuesday, and get
help on this assignment prior to the critique date!)
Step One: Begin by reading all the directions below. Next, look at the web resources. Check out the article "Understanding Dreams", which explores the history of dreams throughout human history. Next, look over the examples on this page to see how dreams have influenced artists and how artists have used dreams, and dream imagery, to inspire artwork. There are many more examples online! Use the links to The Artchive to look for other examples.
Step Two: Next, decide what type of dream you would like to create:
Think
carefully
about
what
colors will
be meaningful
for
your dream work!
Colors may have literal meaning,
associative meaning, or symbolic meaning. The colors you use should say something
about your dream. (Do you ever dream in black and white???) Remember that
whatever colors you use, they should be rich and vivid, with plenty of contrast!
Step Three: Go to the Wikiquote site and find a quote about dreams to include in your page! (You might want to check this out before you begin!)
Step Four: Begin constructing your journal page. Remember that your page must show the dreamer and the dream. (You can be the dreamer, or someone else can be the dreamer!) Strive to create a "dreamlike" image, with multiple layers of information.
REQUIREMENTS for full credit:
REMEMBER....THIS
is the THIRD nine weeks...the skills you
learned last two nine weeks as you did your journals now play
a LARGE PART in the grade! In order to earn an A or B on a
journal, those skills must be evident! Be sure to spend at
LEAST 1.5 hours on the journal assignment!
