Due: Tues., October 28, 2008
THIS IS THE EXTRA CREDIT JOURNAL FOR THE NINE WEEKS!
NOTE THAT THIS IS A ONE TIME OPPORTUNITY! IF you are not in school on Tuesday, and I did not receive it on that day (or earlier) it will not be accepted for credit! If you need these points, use WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY to get it here (as long as it's not immoral, illegal or fattening!). Use a friend, pay a courier, use a carrier pigeon or whatever is necessary to get it here....because WEDNESDAY IS TOO LATE!
ASSIGNMENT:
Most artists are influenced by the work of other artists, or master artists. For this journal, find and research an artist that you find compelling and interesting. Look in particular at the style of the work. Your artist must be a master artist, found on one of the websites at right. Create a journal page for your concentration that emulates the style of your artist. Be sure to choose an artist whose style you can accomplish with a high degree of success.
DIRECTIONS:
1) Use 2 facing pages in your journal (Note that this assignment will not be accepted outside of the journal! Do not "paste" it into your journal."
On the LEFT page, glue a printed copy of your famous painting. Write the name of the artist, and title of the painting below it. No credit will be awarded for this journal without this page and the information requested.
On the right (facing) page, create your journal page immulating the artist's style that you have selected.
2) Your page should be richly colored, and have good contrast! For best effect, be sure your page is full of rich, deep, dark, color! Constrast this with lighter, brighter areas. (DO NOT us construction paper or colored paper for the backgrounds!)
3) Must include meaningful text somewhere in the work (remember, this is not merely a word or words.....it's text that has meaning! Use text as part of the creative fabric of the artwork, not something just "stuck" on. Remember that layering is the key to richness!
4) Collage: Use collage correctly, to enrich colors and textures. Again, do not just "stick" something on to "be" collage. Use it as an element of your design, to enrich the overall look of the work. You should have an expertise well beyond last year!
5) Fill the page. Be sure your page has good composition, a clear center of attention, is well balanced and shows a high level of creativity and originality!
6) Remember that you are working for AP (college!) credit. Your work should look like it is at that level. It will not do your grade any good, if this is a half-baked attempt. It may well improve your grade if you show what you can accomplish!!
EVALUATION STANDARDS:
Your work should conform to the AP STANDARDS for high quality art, as below:
