I HAVE A DREAM
Journal
Assignment
Due
Date: Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012
Critique: Tuesday, Jan. 1, 20123
Objective: Create a commemorative page about Dr. King that shows excellent composition, and a clear center of attention!
Resources: Use a quote from Dr. King from the websites at right. You may write it, or collage it.
Requirements: Your page should contain all the required element below:
1. Drawing &
coloring (majority of the page) Do not use
colored paper for backgrounds. Do the
work by hand.
2. Collage: Now
that you're an expert in collage, use it in a meaningful and colorful manner!
Find a way to incorporate collage so that it enhances your page. Use it correctly!
(No more than 25% please).
3. Photo: In this case,
you may use a photo of Dr. King, so long as you have ample room for all
the other required elements of this journal. Remember that the part Im grading
is the part YOU planned and created...not the photo by another artist. This
should only be an enhancement...not the main design! Please only use
actual photos--no artist's works.
4. Quote: Find a meaningful quote as your starting point.
Your quote should be a major part of your page. Plan it, draw it, and color
it beautifully. Or use cut letters and collage it! Use one of the quotes on
the websites.
5. Door or Windows: To receive credit for this item, it must be planned and executed as part of the composition and the page...NOT as something just stuck on. (No credit will be given for torn doors, or doors on edges of the paper.)
6. Something sewn or woven into the page! This is a new element! Think about ways to do this--you could punch holes with a hole puncher and use brightly colored yarn to make an attractive border.....OR you could use needle and colorful thread to sew a pattern into the page, or "stitch" something TO the page....OR you couldl cut strips of colored paper (or something else) and cut slits into your paper and WEAVE a pattern. MOST IMPORTANTLY...make sure it makes sense in your page. You need to PLAN where it's going, and how the overall design will be created in and around it.
7. Good craftsmanship, and good center of attention!
8. Evidence of growth: Remember that it's all about planning and execution at this point. This is the second nine weeks, and you know what an "A" or "B" journal looks like! Your journal should show consistent development of skill, both in how you apply the materials, as well as in the concept behind the page.
