PHOTOSHOP MINI LESSON #13:

Creating a
Halftone Dot Pattern

Somewhere in your Lichtenstein project, you will need to use a Halftone dot pattern!
Plan to use it somewhere that is flat...like a building, a table, etc. (We will not be using it on you!) Learn how to apply it below!

STEP ONE: First, find a photo of a figure with a simple garment, that you can draw quickly and easily. See example right. Don't worry about any other details.

STEP TWO: To begin, create a new layer and make a quick line drawing. Fill the garment with a solid color (not black!)

STEP THREE: Next, select the solid colored garment with the magic wand, or draw around the area with another selection tool.

STEP FOUR: Go to your Color Picker in the Tool Bar (see left).
Use the Eyedropper pickup tool to select a Foreground color and a contrasting Background Color. These two colors will determine how your halftone dot pattern is colored.

EXAMPLE:

Foreground color (yellow)
Background color (green)

STEP FIVE: Next, go to FILTERS>Sketch>Halftone Pattern.

Set the Pattern on Dot. Adjust the Size and
Contrast until you have a pleasing result.
Try switching your foreground/background
colors or changing colors.

Also experiment with other pattern
types!

STEP SIX: Take a screenshot of both the original photo and the image with the half tone dot pattern. Put it in your portfolio!

PART II:

Try using another halftone pattern, such as lines or circles. Change your colors. Take a screenshot!
