Creating Your
ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO
in Microsoft PowerPoint

OBJECTIVE: Students will use PowerPoint to build a portfolio for evaluation that reflects all work created during the year.
For full credit, your Portfolio should contain all required items for this nine week (listed at right) and any other assignments listed.

NOTE: This is a CUMULATIVE portfolio. Each nine weeks, it is worth 100 points more than the previous nine weeks. Work not included in one nine weeks will continue to count against overall score. Be sure to bring it current, even if the nine weeks has ended for the "project" grade.

POINTS PER NINE WEEKS:

1st Nine Weeks =100 points (plus points for exam)
2nd Nine Weeks=
200 points (plus points for exam)
3rd Nine Weeks =300
points (plus points for exam)
4th Nine Weeks =400 points!
(plus points for final exam)

YOUR PORTFOLIOS MUST INCLUDE:

* A table of contents page, listing all entries

* Pages for each assigned project or exercise, in order. (SEE LIST at right).

* A BCR on each project or exercise page, that includes the objective and some reflective writing about how you feel you did on the project/exercise. (Remember, it's about quality! Not quick!)

*Artwork should be scaled as large as possible on each slide, while maintaining the original proportion. Remember to only scale artwork by the corners, holding the shift key as you do so.

*Art work shold be carefully CROPPED, so that white edges are eliminated from around the artwork. (To do this, select the artwork and the CROP tool will appear in the PICTURE section of the Formatting Palette. Click the Crop Tool and then go to the SIDE handles on your artwork. Hold the mouse button down and drag toward the center of the artwork. (View: Formatting Palette)

*Your Portfolio must be saved as a movie (.mov) file.
To do this, simply go to FILE: Save As Movie.
Next, click on the MOVIE OPTIONS button at the bottom.
Choose QUALITY from the pull down menu.
Choose "Show Movie Controls".
You do not need to do anything further. Save.
To play your movie/slide show, just double click!
Email it to yourself if you wish. It will be saved as
as Quick Time Movie.
(QuickTime player is a free
download, for PC's too).

SCANNING INFORMATION FOR JOURNALS:

Scan in color, at 150 dpi.
If you are scanning at home, or at the library, please use a .jpg file type if you are using a PC. If you are using a Mac, please use a PICT file type.

HOW TO MAKE A SCREEN SHOT:

Hold the following three keys on your keyboard:

Command/Apple Key + Shift + 3

You will now find a new file on your desktop, called "Picture 1".
Doubleclick the Picture 1 file, and it will open in PREVIEW.
Next, find the SELECT tool at the top of the page, and drag around your artwork. Go to TOOLS>CROP. You can now either copy and paste your cropped artwork directly into your PowerPoint presentation, OR you can save it as a PICT file. Make a folder called "Cropped Images" in your Documents folder to keep them in.
