JOURNAL
ASSIGNMENT:
Create a collage of a sports scene, or an athletic activity!
Now that you have learned to collect and organize collage materials, it's time to put them together into something original!
In this collage, we will NOT be using any photos or pictures...only brightly colored pieces of paper, string, cardboard, newspaper, etc.
Remember, you may not cut out "pictures" of ANYTHING to assemble into this collage. All items must be created from bits and pieces of paper, cardboard, string, wrapping paper, newspaper, etc. Get creative!
DIRECTIONS:
1. STEP ONE: Find a photo of a sports scene to use as
your working model. (Be sure to check it with me before starting). Or, you
can use something from a sports magazine. Be
sure it has a figure (the action!), and a clear background, middleground and
foreground. Be sure to keep any photos you use, to turn in with your
project. You will be glueing this photo onto the facing page, across from
your collage. For now, hold onto it.
2. STEP TWO: Using your photo, draw a loose outline of the sports scene onto your journal page. Your drawing does not have to have detail...just basic outlines of objects. (HINT: If you like, you can use "poor man's tracing paper" to transfer your image!)
3. Once you have your outline, begin collaging! Glue down bits of paper to fill in the areas of color.
Use small bits of paper to build up and create your work. When complete, 99% of the page must have collage! Some hints:

HOW TO
CHOOSE A GOOD PHOTO:
Your photo should have a clearly defined
BACKGROUND,
MIDDLEGROUND &
FOREGROUND.
If your scene doesn't have these three elements, find another photo !
You might want to take the foreground out of one photo, and the background from another photo. BE SURE to include both photos on the facing page!
REQUIREMENTS:
*Follow directions on the left carefully
*Be sure you glue the photo you used on the left facing page of your journal
*Write your name on the facing page below your photo
*Do not use any cut outs of things, object, people or parts of people in the production of your collage. Only small bits of paper used to CONSTRUCT things, people or objects!
*Remember and use the Rule of Tens
*Use good craftsmanship: no tape or staples. Use glue. If you don't have a glue stick or Rlmers, you can always MAKE glue out of a little flour and water.
*Do not use any 3D objects in the making of this journal. If in doubt, apply this test: Try to close your journal. If it will totally close, it's OK to use! Also, please don't use any perishable FOOD in your journal.
