PHOTOSHOP:
Using Gradient Mapping

Step One: Launch Photoshop.
Next, open a photo of yourself, or a photo of someone else that is easy to find on the internet. Be sure it is appropriate!

Step Two: DUPLICATE the background layer (Layer: Duplicate Layer, or simply drag to the New Layer button in the Layer Menu).

STEP THREE: Go to IMAGE: ADJUSTMENTS: DESATURATE. This should leave you with a black and white image.

Step Three: Click on the "New fill or Adjustments" layer button located at the bottom of the Layers Window. (see right). Select GRADIENT MAP.

Step Four: In the Gradient Map window, click on the Arrow in the blue pull down menu, and find the arrow leading to the menu selections. Select "Color Harmonies 2".

 

 

 

Step Five: Experiment with colors, until you find a range you find appealing.

Step Six: To complete the Color Map, go back to the LAYER MENU, and go to the Blend Mode Menu (see diagram right). Pull down to COLOR.

Step Seven: Your Gradient Map is complete!

Step Eight: Next, open a second photo of an animal.
Apply gradient map to the animal. Use another color harmony or gradient choice. Experiment with other color sets from the menu (metals, color harmonies 1, etc. ).

STEP NINE: Make screenshots of the "before" and "after" versions of your photo. Save the both examples in your name Photoshop Folder!
