Photoshop Mini 12a: Create Your Own Brush!
Custom Brushes

Step One: Create a file that is 1" x 1", resolution 150, white background.

Step Two. Go to SELECT: ALL.

Step Three: Go back to SELECT, and scroll down to MODIFY>FEATHER.
Make the Feather Radius 0.2 pixels.

Step Four: In the 1x1 file, create an design using your initials, or name. Use only one dark color or black. You may use any brushes you wish, or use the text tool. See Examples at right.

Step Five: Flatten your layers (if you have any) by going to LAYERS: Flatten Image. Save your file on the desktop as YLNI example1.

Step Six: Select all.

Step Seven: Go to EDIT: Define Brush Preset. This will create your design as a custom brush! (It will also convert it to grayscale). Name your brush.

Step Eight: Next, make a NEW file, 5x5, resolution 150.

Step Nine: Use your new initials brush to show the following:
Various sizes, colors, color dynamics, shape dynamics, and various opacities. Experiment!

Evaluation will be based upon: following directions, effort, and level of experimentation with the new brush. Fill the 5x5, without letting it become jumbled or too congested to see your work. Layer your information in ways that show off your skills!

Step Ten:
Save it as "YLNI custom 3f".
Have it ready to TURN IN TOMORROW during Warm Up. 100 points!

 

Extra Credit:
(Note: Extra credit will not be counted if the assignment above is not done.)

Create a second brush, using a photo!

Simply open a photo, and use the rectangular marquee (selection tool) to select a part of it.

Got to Edit: Define Brush Presets.

Last, create a 5x5 file, following the same directions as above.

Save your file as YLNI custEXTRA
