Mandala Directions:
Note: It is expected that the majority of directions will be received during class. A brief overview of this project is below.
1. Create a line design within a triangle that is 1/8 of a circle.
2. Using tracing paper, ink your design carefully with sharpie pen.
3. Flip and match your design, and trace it on the back of with pencil, lightly. Remember that we have to erase the pencil line later.
4. Next, go back to the ink side, and ink the area that was created with pencil.
5. Scan at 600 dpi, using line or illustration setting. Scan with full color. Save as a jpg file.
6. Open your scanned file in Photoshop. Using Threshold (Iimage:Adjustments: Threshold), adjust the contrast so that only black and white exist. All gray must be gone.
7. Clean up your design carefully. Be sure to fill any pinholes or lines that are not completely filled in.
8. Next, open a NEW file that is 15x15 inches, resolution 300 to 500 dpi.
9. Drag over your cleaned up design. Duplicate and complete the circular design. You may need to use the Constrained Line tool to select each individual piece, and DISTORT it, in order to make the pieces meet precisely.
10. When the mandala is complete, and fits, save it 5 times, as YLNI mandala1, 1a, 1b, etc. Save it in your Documents folder.
11. Begin colorizing! Strive for a 3D effect, using drop shadows, bevels, etc.
