REQUIREMENTS for the
LICHTENSTEIN PROJECT

In order to receive credit, the Lichtenstein project must be complete. In order to be considered complete, it must contain a finished, fully colored figure and background. Incomplete projects will not be graded.

THE DRAWING:
1. Line drawing must be completed and saved without color (including background)
2. Line drawing must be correctly constructed on a layers independent of the photograph. You are encouraged to use as many layers as necessary.
3. The drawing fills the page! The figure should be large, and the center of attention.
4. Background drawing should be sufficiently detailed. (i.e., don’t do anything too simple, or too complex!
5. Line drawing shows careful drawing and attention to detail.
6. Line drawing shows well crafted outlines that are sensitive to shape.
7. Line drawing shows contour lines, sufficient to produce a 3D appearance.
8. Line drawing shows variable sized lines.
9. Line drawing shows expressive line quality.
10. Photos are used for reference materials for the background.
11. NO cartoons, clip art, other artist’s work (such as drawing, paintings, illustraiton) can be used! Photographs only.
16. All photo layers are still contained in the file (these layers must be off).
17. Finished drawing must contain a speech bubble or thought bubble.


COLORIZATION
1. All areas are filled with color, patterns, gradients, etc. No white areas should remain.
2. Half-tone dots must be used somewhere in your work. You choose where!
3.The figure has areas that demonstrate shading, using techniques as demonstrated in class.


BACKGROUND:
1. Background should be derived primarily from photographs. Interpret the photographs and make changes as necessary. You may use as many photos (or pieces of photos) as you need.
2. Background drawing should be sufficiently detailed. (i.e., don’t do anything too simple, or too complex!
3. Background must be fully colored.

 

THE SHORT VERSION:

For maximum credit, the Lichtenstein Project should have the following:

1. FULL COLOR: (No spaces should be white. Even white objects should have a tiny bit of color or a slight gradient in order for it to print correctly!)

2. HALFTONE DOT: You must use the halftone dot (or circles/lines) somewhere in your work. You choose where!

3. BRUSHES: You must make good use of the brush tools (hopefully several different brushes!) in your work. Use them to create interesting textures, such as grass.

4. SPEECH/THOUGHT BUBBLE: Include a bubble somewhere in your work that will not interrupt the composition or overlap anything critical! Look for a spot that

5. SHADING-Your work should show color contour shading, using the posterization technique we practiced in class. The minimum requirement is to use it in your figure. Feel free to use it other areas as well!
