Although this is an overnight assignment, you actually
have a long weekend built in, before the final grading is done.
Get your journal ready, and bring it in for a pre-check. Remember
that work will only be accepted "in" the journal. Do not tape, staples
or otherwise affix it to the page. Work in the journal.
INTRODUCTION:
Color is a vital part of our world. Color is also one of the "Elements Of Art".
This week, your journal will explore color. How you decide to approach this subject is entirely up to you. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do this, so long as you meet the requirements below. To get you started, I've provided several websites that have lots of information about color, and how it impacts everything in our lives. Check out the "Explore" sections....Get thinking about color and see where it leads you! Be creative! Create a page in your journal that is a party on paper!
JOURNAL REQUIREMENTS:
Subject: COLOR
Size: 1 page
Materials: Pens, pencils, colored pencils, watercolor,
markers, bits of brightly colored paper, etc. Basically anything that is bright
and colorful will work beautifully!
Create: Your journal page should be fun, have lots of diferent, jazzy designs, and be full of lots of rich, bright color! It shoul reflect your thinking and research about color. Pick an aspect of color and create a page in your journal. There is no "right" or "wrong" answer to this journal. Each journal entry is as individual as you are. Don't be afraid to do something different! Spend about 1.5 hours creating this work. Planning & effort count!
Requirements: Your journal should contain the following elements for full credit. As usual, the amount of thought, planning, time and effort will greatly impact the grade.
- Color: Your pages should be full of color, in the background and in the foreground. All areas should have color. (Do not used colored paper for backgrounds.)
- Drawing & Coloring: Create drawings or designs on your pages. Create colorful areas on your page that reflects your reading about color. These do not have to be "realistic"...they could be just beautiful shapes and spaces! Fill the entire page. Use pencil, pen, crayons, markers, etc.
- Meaningful Text: Write something meaningful about color, by hand, on your page. (Do not print out words and glue them down.) Your writing might be thoughts, lyrics, poems...You can use it to create background areas, to fill spaces, to emphasize areas, etc.
- Layering: Think of your page in terms of background, middle ground and foreground. Create the background first, and work "up" to the foreground. This is a very important part of developing an interesting and successful page! Try to create "layers" of information. Let items overlap!
- Collage: Create small areas of collage that add areas of interest to your page. Collage should be like little jewels, designed to enhance the overall page. Collage items should be carefully and neatly cut out. Try using small bits of brightly colored paper, or tiny actual pictures from a magazine of brightly colored items. DO NOT USE more than 20% collage on your page. And, please DO NOT glue Skittles (or any other colorful food) in your journal!
- ORIGINALITY: Come up with something original! Do not copy anything off the web, or use any copyrighted images (example: Hello Kitty or Donald Duck)
- TIME: Generally speaking, you should spend about 1.5 hours completing your journal assignment .You can do it all at once, or stretch it out a little at a time.
- YOUR NAME CLEARLY WRITTEN on the facing page.
What NOT to do:
- Do not copy anything off the web. ORIGINALITY COUNTS! Come up with your own design!
- Don't color softly...PUT SOME VIGOR INTO IT! Use rich, deep colors for the best grades! Make that pencil or crayon give you the rich, full color that in it!
- Do not use any copyrighted images...for instance, cartoons like "Hello Kitty", Disney, etc.
- Don't glue food into your book
