Objective: Students will create an original package design for a CD jewel case.

Requirements: Using Photoshop, you will create an original CD cover (front, back and spine) featuring yourself as the artist, creator, designer and star. You may create any type of CD, so long as it is 'true to life' (meaning you could actually go out and buy a similar CD). It must feature a photo of you somewhere on the CD. Spend some time with the Web Resources!

Some possible CD ideas:

• Musical CD
• Language CD "How to speak Spanish in 10 days"
• Aerobics CD
• Dance CD
• Book on tape/CD

REQUIREMENTS:
Your CD Must:

1. Have the name of the CD on the front (and often the Title song if this is a musical CD). Back cover must contain tract names, description of game, etc.
2. Layers must remain active (not flattened).
3. Use text that is carefully placed in negative spaces, and areas that create high contrast (see Legend). Text must be in separate, editable layers.
4. Must contain bar code & rating info (it's OK to copy & paste this from the net, as long as it's in a separate layer)
5. Must be properly constructed (See diagram and notes) with a front, back and spine
6. Must show good composition; good use of balanced space
7. Must make use opacities, effects, filters, layer effects, and demonstrate your best Photoshop skills!
8. Be created solely by you. It cannot be a copy or remake of anything currently in existence.
9. Must use at least one photo of you on the CD, which may be edited, colorized, recreated and changed to suit the design. NOTE!! DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT log into any social website, such as Facebook, myspace, etc. You may bring in a photo of yourself ona flash drive.

Your CD must NOT:

• Use any photos of persons other than students at ERHS (with their permission)
• Have text overlapping photos in places that creates difficult reading (see examples right of good text placement!)
• Use any symbols, words, slogans, titles or emblems that are not original! (example: Nike logo)
• Use any explicit or graphic elements related to: gangs, street groups, neighborhood groups, drugs, guns, hate groups, intolerance, violence towards women and/or tacky sexual scenarios (Remember that there is a wide gulf between provocative and trashy! Use good taste and have fun with this project without resorting to this kind of thing. You don't have to portray yourself as "bad" in order to be "good"! Find something positive to reflect about yourself!)
